Online Watch Party for Pose
Pose follows the lives of people living in the ’80s and ’90s New York underground ballroom community, including gay men and trans women of colour, many of whom are living with HIV. The show speaks a lot of truth to a variety of our communities and common histories.
Join us for a very chill watch party & discussion of the first episode of the series, fall in love with these beautiful characters, and maybe we can meet back and watch another episode soon.
Excerpt from interview with Ryan Murphy:
“‘Write the TV show you want to watch!’ That’s what I was told in 2014 while completing my MFA in screenwriting,” he told the outlet. “At the time we weren’t seeing very many Black and Latinx characters — that happened to also be LGBTQ+ — populating screens. And so I wrote the first draft of a pilot the ‘younger me’ deserved. Pose was conceived as a love letter to the underground NY ballroom community, to my beloved New York, to my queer & trans family, to myself.”
This event is being hosted online. “Doors open” 6:30 and we’ll start the series at 7 pm. A discussion will follow after the screening.
– individuals will need access to reliable internet using a video-conferencing compatible device (such as a smartphone, tablet, or laptop).
– live transcription will be available, however, we are not able to provide ASL interpreters for this event.
