The Harm Reduction program operates the free and confidential Stay Sharp Syringe Distribution program on behalf of Wellington Dufferin Guelph Public Health during regular office hours. We supply new syringes, filters, alcohol swabs, tourniquets, cookers, vitamin C, abscess kits and safe drug inhalation materials as well as information and referrals to reduce the spread of HIV and Hepatitis B and C through injection and inhaled drug use. We also receive used needles for safe disposal.
The Harm Reduction Outreach Coordinator provides a safe, supportive and non-judgmental environment for individuals involved with substance use and associated issues. Referrals can be made to appropriate treatment programs and community service providers to assist individuals with achieving their goals.
Individuals with substance use issues encounter stigma on a daily basis. At times practical support such as advocacy on behalf of the client with other service providers may assist clients with better accessing services to benefit their health and wellness.
The Harm Reduction Outreach Coordinator provides education to individuals, groups and community service organizations regarding safer sex practices and safer drug use which reduces the transmission of STIs, HIV and Hepatitis C.
